Kids ages 10-16 learn how to use firearms safely
NEGAUNEE -- About 100 U.P. kids attended the U.P. Whitetails Youth Shooting Day at the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club Saturday. Youth aged 10-16 were taught how to load and handle firearms, compass reading and other important hunting techniques.
"There are a lot of kids up here who have not been properly instructed on the way to do it right, and we feel it's important that we have these kids, who are going to be out there hunting and fishing and camping, all those outdoor skills, that we can teach them and make them safer in the outdoors, and they'll be enjoying it more," said U.P. Whitetails' President, Gary Modin.
Three compound bows, one rifle and three shotguns were given away as prizes at the end of the day. The camp was free for all kids.
