MANITOWOC, WI -- A former Marquette resident is hospitalized in Green Bay after an alleged assault over the weekend.

According to the Manitowoc (Wisconsin) City Police, it happened shortly after midnight on September 4.

Police were called to the 800 block of Buffalo Street in Manitowoc where they found 27-year-old Adam Paavola on the ground in front of the Shoot the Bull Tavern.  He and another man, 23-year-old Damien Metz, apparently had gotten into an altercation in the bar, and the issue was taken outdoors.

During the fight, Metz allegedly hit Paavola in the face, knocking him to the ground.  The victim struck his head on the sidewalk, fracturing his skull.

He is currently at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay, undergoing treatment.

Metz was charged with battery, but police say the status of the charge could change depending on Paavola's condition.

The case was also handed over to the district attorney's office for possible charges against Paavola for his part on the altercation.

The case is still under investigation.
