SAWYER -- An apparent arson destroyed two buildings in a multiplex on Raider Street in Sawyer on Tuesday after 5 p.m., according to the Forsyth Township Police Department.

The second of the eight multiplex units caught fire and spread to another.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the two units.

The buildings have not been occupied since the Sawyer Air Force base closed in 1995.

The units have no electricity, no gas and no water, and the other houses on Raider Street are all unoccupied.  The nearest residents live several streets over.

The arson investigation remains open.  If you have any information about the arson, you are asked to contact the Forsyth Township Police Department at (906) 346-9224.
