LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP -- The Alger County Sheriff's Department is investigating an apparent drowning that happened sometime Sunday afternoon.

According to the sheriff's department, they were called out to the West Branch of the Whitefish River in Limestone Township on a report of an overdue fisherman at approximately 4 p.m.  The sister of the missing man called and reported there may be cause for alarm due to an undisclosed medical condition.

After a four-hour search by the Alger County Sheriff's Department, the Michigan State Police and the Eastern U.P. Search and Rescue, the body of a 25-year-old Westmont, Illinois man was found floating face down in the river approximately one mile from the victim's last known location.

The body was recovered and an autopsy has been scheduled.

Assisting in the search were members of the Alger Correctional Facility Emergency Response team and Alger County EMS.
