MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- The Marquette County Sheriff's Department received a call on Wednesday about a possible telephone scam coming from an 876 area code, which is assigned to Jamaica.

The caller told the Marquette Township resident that there was a package for him, but there was a gift card required to deliver it.

Officials are warning residents to use caution when dealing with unfamiliar phone numbers.  If you think you have been the victim of a telephone scam, you can file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission at (888) CALL-FCC or the Federal Trade Commission at (877) 382-4357.
