HANCOCK -- Finlandia University athletic students now have a home field they can call their own.

The university celebrated the expansion of their football and soccer field on Wednesday.  They call it Phase I of their three-step process to complete renovations in their athletic complex.

The new field sits on the grass they previously used for sporting events.

Funds raised went toward an artificial field turf, a scoreboard, and lighting.

“It’s a huge deal for our athletic program,” said Director of Athletics Chris Salani.  “We haven’t had a home field so to speak, and for our programs that utilize the field and our soccer program, this is truly a place they can call home.  For the institution, it’s been a huge step in the progress of developing our Division III athletics.

Officials hope Phase II and Phase III will add more bleachers, a new tennis court and a softball field.
