ESCANABA -- Escanaba Public Safety is cautioning the public to secure their belongings in vehicles after a rash of break-ins that happened around the city recently.
The stolen items include $147 in cash, a mounted car TV and a speaker. Police also warn that, in addition to electronic equipment, thieves often target pills and medication.
Always lock your car door, and if possible, hide anything that may be of high value. The vehicles broken into were not locked.
"I mean, Escanaba is a safe place, and it's a great place to live," said Public Safety Captain Jaime Segorski, "although there's still going to be those instances where there's going to be crime. Park in areas that are well lit or closer to a busy street. It will add security anytime there's a better chance of someone coming by."
Officials said that break-ins do come in spurts but are more prone to happen when there's good weather outside.
