SILVER CITY -- It's not often we get a chance to enjoy a music festival in the beauty of a Wilderness State Park.  Music lovers and musicians alike agree it's something worth coming back for every year.

Singer songwriter Sista Otis' music has been heard on the radio waves in 12 different countries, but today she chose to come right to the U.P., and it's not the first time.  Her mix of country, rhythm, blues, and rock and roll graced the stage of the first Porcupine Music Festival.  She says it's something she won't forget.

"From the very first note that was played, it was great.  We're still talking about it now," says Otis.

It's not just the musicians that keep coming back, it's the crowds as well.  Organizers say the crowd just keeps getting bigger every year, and they're hoping to break the record this weekend with more than 1,000 guests.

They say it's the music quality and location that brings out hundreds to the wilderness park.

"You can sit up on the hill and see Lake Superior out there, the breeze is great, the sunshine, it's a beautiful place," says organizer Linda Kermeen.

This year there's about 30 performances planned through the weekend, and according to organizers, no two acts are alike.  But music lovers can expect to experience some blues, bluegrass, jazz, and country in a venue like no other.

"The sound, it just rolled like a wave up the hills.  This is the perfect spot," Otis says.
