UPPER PENINSULA -- Hurricane Irene continues to travel north-northeasterly up the Eastern U.S. coast. While it won't come close to the Upper Peninsula due to how strong the storm is, it will influence our weather. It will help to cool things down locally, especially overnight inland.
Irene will assist in pulling cooler air down from the upper atmosphere, and it will also change our winds to mainly northerly throughout the weekend.
Will we see any strong winds or rain from Irene over the weekend? Not a chance.
We are still in an abnormally dry period locally, so any rainfall will help us return to normal.
A high pressure system located near the northern Midwest will provide a calm and seasonable forecast for the Upper Peninsula over the weekend with highs in the mid to lower 70s, lows near 50 degrees and partly cloudy skies expected.
