HOUGHTON COUNTY -- The 60th annual Houghton County Fair kicked off Thursday night with Family Night.  As always, carnival rides and local food vendors are the favorites for children and families.

If you go, you can expect the off-road derby to take the dirt Friday, along with local entertainment Friday evening.

Organizers say fun and safety are the main priorities at the fair.

"You can bring a family here, and if you got kids, you can virtually let them go.  You know if they're kind of old enough, eight to nine years old, you don't have to worry about them because the whole community watches out for everybody," said Houghton County Fair President Rick Freeman.

On Saturday, a monster truck show will be the big excitement, and a demolition derby will close out the fair on Sunday.
