NEGAUNEE -- People in Negaunee expressed their concern for a recent parking ordinance, and the city council met in special session to address it.

The new ordinance stated that homeowners could not park their vehicles in the right-of-way within 15 feet of any city curb or roadway.

The council, along with the planning commission, voted to amend the ordinance to only six feet for those with no sidewalk and up to the sidewalk for those with one.

Members stated they understood the objections and hope the amendment will ease their concerns.

"I think we'll make driveways much easier to use and not get into a problem that we really don't have to bring about," said Negaunee Mayor Michael Haines.

The council sent back an exemption application to the planning commission to consider multi-family dwellings.
