HOUGHTON COUNTY -- The name and photograph of a missing woman in Houghton has now been released. Officials have released a photograph of 55-year-old Valerie Sue Palmer who has been missing since Saturday.
Officials say Palmer is from Harbor Springs but had been visiting friends in the area. She was last seen by Wells Fargo Bank in Houghton late Saturday night, wearing capri pants and a white and yellow tank top and a visor.
Police say they found Palmer's purse and other belongings in a boat that did not belong to her in Torch Bay.
The U.S. Coast Guard has been out on the water assisting with the rescue search as well as Superior Search and Rescue, who have been on foot, searching in Houghton and surrounding areas.
Palmer is believed to also suffer emotional setbacks.
"With the boat involved, we are looking at the water, of course, but there is a possibility it could be land also," said Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean. "We just don't know and, of course, having the news media get the word out for us is very, very helpful, too, and people can start to look about and we appreciate that."
The police department, along with the sheriff's department, is asking anyone with information in regard to Palmer's whereabouts to contact them.
