DICKINSON COUNTY -- A 34-year-old Kingsford man died in a vehicle fire on Saturday in a field on County Road 607 in Breitung Township.

Witnesses at the scene said that the truck got stuck on a stump, and they were unable to free it.  One of the men decided to sleep in the truck.   One of the other two men went to his residence while another slept near the fire pit that was 200 yards from the truck.

The man sleeping near the fire pit woke around 6 a.m. and noticed that there were flames in the field and went to get help from people at the residence nearby, according to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department.

When they arrived at the fire, they noticed that the truck had burned and the man inside was dead.

The Michigan State Police Fire Investigator from Grand Rapids was flown in to investigate the fire.  He stated that the cause of the fire appears to be accidental and started in the engine compartment or in the undercarriage.

The name of the victim is not being released until the investigation is complete.
