HOUGHTON -- An extensive search is underway in the Portage Lake and canal area of Houghton and Hancock.

The Coast Guard deployed a boat and called in a helicopter from Traverse City in search of a missing 55-year-old woman.  Her name has not been released.

On Sunday morning, some of the subject’s belongings were found in a boat in Torch Bay.  Police say the missing woman has recently suffered some "emotional setbacks."  Officials say she was last seen in Houghton near Wells Fargo Bank on Townsend Drive wearing aqua colored capri pants, a white and yellow tank top and a broad-rimmed visor.

She has white, shoulder length hair with hazel eyes and glasses.  She's approximately 5'8' in height and 145 lbs.

If you have any information, Houghton Police ask that you contact them or the County Sheriff at (906) 482-0055.
