Some Marquette County firefighters paid a visit to kids at Van Riper State Park Saturday morning
CHAMPION -- Marquette County firefighters weren't at Van Riper State Park to put out any fires but to, instead, show off their gear and to give demonstrations.
Kids were able to see exactly what firefighters looked like dressed up so that they know what to expect in case of a fire.
"This is so that the children out here are kind of familiar with our techniques and what we look like coming into a burning structure in case they may be inside of a burning structure and they need to be rescued," says Fire Chief Chris Pelkola. "They're going to get to see a member dressed up in turn-out gear with an air-pack on."
After talking to the kids, the firefighters then went on to have their sixth annual Mutual Aid Picnic with the other fire departments in the area.
