MARQUETTE -- Members of the American Society of Landscape Architects presented projects across the nation. In Marquette, one such architect presented his plan to make the Peter White Library more accessible.
The day is intended to help describe the profession and possibly attract young people to it.
Local architect Bill Sanders used the day to present his plan to make the Betsy Clow gardens more accessible to those in wheelchairs. The south garden currently has two steps, and Sanders' plan would eliminate them and put in a five percent slope.
Sanders says universal access is one of the main goals of landscape architecture.
"The whole idea of universal design, I find very interesting. You know as a landscape architect, we always strive to make projects more, for more people," said Sanders.
The library hopes to have the plan installed later this fall.
