The recall elections will be held Tuesday

MADISON, WIS. (AP) -- Two Democratic state senators face recall elections on Tuesday, but even if they win, Republicans will hold on to the majority.  If they lose, Republicans could build on their 17-16 majority.

Republicans lost two seats in six recalls last week.

Democrats Bob Wirch of Pleasant Prairie and Jim Holperin of Conover are trying to retain their seats on Tuesday.  They were targeted for recall after fleeing to Illinois earlier this year in a vain attempt to stop passage of Gov. Scott Walker's proposal curbing collective bargaining rights.

Wirch faces attorney Jonathan Steitz of Kenosha, and Holperin is challenged by Tea Party organizer Kim Simac of Eagle River.

This is the second time Holperin has been targeted for recall.  He survived a 1990 attempt tied to his support for tribal spearfishing.
