MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Hard to believe but the summer is nearing an end and Michigan State Police are gearing up to combat drunk driving.
State Police are working along with the Drunk Driving...Over the Limit...Under Arrest program.
According to the Michigan State Police, the U.P. counties of Marquette, Chippewa and Houghton have received grant funds to add more patrol hours for troopers.
"When our troops are on the grant funded initiative, they are doing one thing and that's looking for drunk drivers," said Sgt. Kevin Dowling of the Michigan State Police. "They're not answering phone calls for service, so they're not interrupted in their patrol duties."
The time frame for the increased hours has been set between August 19 to September 1.
State police say increased traffic during the Labor Day weekend largely contributed.
