Michigan Tech received a brand new Chevy Volt for its research program

HANCOCK -- It's a new turn for the Advanced Power Systems Research Center at Michigan Tech.  Saturday morning, the school received a brand new electric Chevy Volt donated by General Motors.

The car acts much like a normal vehicle but can run on its battery for about 40 miles before switching to fuel.

Students will be able to take it apart and study the technology behind battery-powered vehicles.

The car will remain at the school's research center in Hancock.
