MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County Board instructed their staff to look into employing their own civil counsel.
Currently the civil counsel is employed by the prosecutor's office and performs duties for that office in addition to their work for the county board.
The goal of Tuesday night's motion is for staff to research the figures on whether or not it's financially feasible for the board to have its own attorney.
"Working directly for the board, you would have one boss, instead of the way it is right now; there would be two bosses and it probably is better that there is one boss, whoever it's going to be," said County Commissioner, Bruce Heikkala.
Also during the meeting, County Administrator Steve Powers announced September 8 as his final day and informed the board of his intention to give his formal resignation in the coming days to take a job in Ann Arbor.
