MARQUETTE -- On Tuesday, health organizations from across the U.P. came together to discuss what issues they think are most significant to residents.
Over 90 representatives of over 40 organizations such as hospitals, community health professionals and insurance companies, attended the workshop to bring to light the issues they say are a growing concern.
Mental health issues, substance abuse and obesity were the highest concerns, while underage and binge drinking numbers were down bringing some good news.
Organizers say the workshop is an important part of serving the community.
"The only way to improve the community's health is to find out what we're doing well, what we're not doing so well, and then from there develop a health improvement plan," said Marquette County Health Officer Fred Benzie. "Once you have a community health improvement plan, then you can look at putting resources where they're most needed."
The workshop was sponsored by the Michigan Department of Community Health.
