MARQUETTE -- There is a moose on the loose in Presque Isle Park.

Crowds gathered Saturday afternoon to take in the rare sight.  It was first spotted over a week ago at the park.

The moose is said to be one-and-a-half years old, and Saturday it lounged around near the band shell area.

Marquette City Police kept everyone a safe distance away from the moose, and they urge anyone visiting the park to give it enough room so that it doesn't feel threatened.  Moose are known for being quick and powerful animals.

The unexpected occurrence surprised a few locals who scheduled a party there.

There are concerns about moving the moose in this hot weather because it would require the animal to be put under anesthesia.
