A hero's welcome

MARQUETTE -- A true American hero was welcomed home to Marquette.

Staff Sergeant Mark Zambon lost his legs last January while serving in Afghanistan.

Zambon is a Marine who specializes in disposing of explosives.

Thursday, his friends and family, along with American Legion Post 44, held a barbeque in his honor at Harlow Park in Marquette.

Zambon was on his sixth tour of duty in his eight-year career in the Marines.  He says coming home to a reception like this means everything to him.

"Whether you're out doing stuff like I've been doing, combat tour after combat tour, knowing you have that support, you know, when you get home and you're back there with friends and family, it's like a bed rock, you know, in life," said Zambon.

Zambon has been fitted with two prosthetic legs.

He'll only be in town for a week before returning for more rehabilitation.  While he says he hasn't made up his mind about returning to the service, he says he'll attempt to climb the tallest mountain in Argentina as part of the "Heroes Project" program to help inspire other wounded veterans.
