MARQUETTE -- On Thursday, students at the Northern Michigan University Police Academy got the chance to put their first aid skills to the test during a mock bus accident.
The Police Academy puts on the mock accident every year to give students an idea of what it would be like in a life or death situation.
The accident simulated a crash involving an NMU bus and an SUV. There were 18 victims in various states of injury for the cadets to help.
The cadets were trained in first aid for four days prior to the accident.
Cadets said although the accident wasn't real, it taught them how to work as a team under pressure.
"It felt like I was running in circles," said Police Cadet Steven Johnson. "People yelling at me from everywhere and had different things going on, trying to keep track of what's going on and who's taking care of what."
The cadets had the accident victims out of the bus and treated in about half an hour.
