IRON MOUNTAIN -- There are only eight fully restored war gliders in the world, and Iron Mountain is now home to one of them.

They say that is an outstanding show of support from their community and that six years of work went into restoring this World War II CG-4A Glider by the Menominee Range Museum.

Organizers say more than 20,000 volunteer hours and $400,000 in donations have gone into the project.  The excitement carried through to the museum when it opened its doors Sunday to a crowd of 1,000 people in the first day.

"I think it says about this area, there are a lot of people very dedicated to their country, 'course many were in the service," said Menominee Range Museum President Ken Sobey.  "About 4,500 worked at the Ford plant, building gliders during World War II.  Great people."

The museum is open daily from noon to 4 p.m.
