EBEN -- Superior Central School District could lose $35,000 in state aid.  The state is penalizing the Eben District for falling two days short of the required 165 school days for the year.

Superior Central students took two days off to go downstate to support their boys varsity basketball team for the second year in a row.  The previous year, the state counted hours for compliance; this year, it was based on days.

They're now in the process of appealing the state ruling.

"We had done it the past year and they allowed it, but with new rules that went into effect, we didn't realize that taking those athletic days was not going to be forgiven this coming year," said Superintendent/Principal, Pam Morris.

Morris also says that if they lose the funds, it'll hit the Alger County district hard.  There are some 350 students in the K through 12 school.
