MARQUETTE -- The recent success of the Women's World Cup United States soccer team has been an inspiration to many children learning the game, including some in Marquette.
The kids were enrolled in the UK International Soccer Camp Program and learned the fundamentals such as passing, control, shooting and defense.
The program started on Monday and ran through the week with half-day camps from 9 a.m. to noon and full days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Many of the participants said watching the World Cup has inspired them to play.
"Sometimes when I see them passing and controlling the ball more easily than the average player, I always think that if we practice more often, we could probably play that good," said Josie Snyder.
UK International Soccer holds camps throughout the country, including Hawaii and Alaska, and aim to interest children in soccer while teaching the basics of the game.
