MANISTIQUE -- Both locals and tourists participated in the Farmer's Market in Manistique. You had to be there at the opening bell if you wanted any strawberries or beets, but the other items that didn't sell out immediately remained available, like eggs, bread, jellies, jams, and produce.
"It gets people outside, it gives them an option, it givens them things to buy and products that they normally wouldn't see," said City Manager Sheila Aldrich. "We have some folks here who have fresh herbs right out of their garden."
The prep time from the garden to the market takes about a day, according to some of the vendors. They usually harvest, clean, and then package the items the day before.
The Farmer's Market will go on every Wednesday until the end of September.
The attendance has been increasing every week, and they've seen nearly 200 shoppers.
