MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- A local ball field is undergoing some renovations, and it's getting some help from all kinds of sources.

In Marquette Township, Lions Field is in part two of a three-phase project focused on improving the grounds conditions.  Time has taken its toll on the area, so they'll be adding breakaway bases and replacing the infield dirt as well as the fencing.

They'll also construct dugouts for the players and bleachers for parents and fans.

"Here we've got a gem of a field or what once was a gem of a field," said Marquette Township Supervisor Dennis Liimatta.  "And it's just been sitting here and is weed-choked while people are running all around town trying to find field space.  So, unfortunately because of lack of field time, then we have to start limiting the number of participants who can participate in youth softball."

They've received contributions from Lowe's, Cedar Motor Inn, the local Lions Clubs, and private citizens.

They welcome anyone to assist them in the project.
