MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Commission considered whether or not to continue their support and match funding for the proposed Marquette Skate Plaza.

The commission passed a motion to continue their support and roll over the $75,000 allocated from last year's budget into this year's budget.

The Skate Plaza Committee needed to come up with $150,000 on their own to get the $75,000 matching funds from the city.  They only came up with $120,000, but the committee says the remaining $30,000 will come from donated services to reach the requirement.

"The city has really used the Skate Plaza, in my opinion, as a pilot study to figure out how the city will move forward for other projects in the future and for ours to legitimize that process and then, ultimately, to award the money, which I urge them to do," said Skate Plaza Committee member, Brad Jackson.

The Skate Plaza Committee says the next step is to confer with the city over the value of donated services, which would result in a resolution before the commission at a later date.
