While construction at the Eagle Mine in the Yellow Dog Plains continues, members of various environmental action groups are continuing to protest and rally against it.
MARQUETTE -- Saturday afternoon, Save the Wild U.P. and WAVE, or Water Action Vital Earth, hosted a joint rally in front of the Marquette County Courthouse.
The two groups are kicking off their campaign to get the community interested in a renewed effort to the block the Eagle Mine in the Yellow Dog Plains.
Organizers say they are most concerned about other mining prospects being investigated in the Great Lakes region.
"We really want Rio Tinto and the personnel at the mine to know that there's still a lot of people who care about this issue, and we're determined to keep it in the public view and also continue to contact Governor Snyder and ask him for this E.I.S. for the Eagle Mine," says WAVE spokesperson Catherine Parker.
An E.I.S., or Environmental Impact Study, has allegedly not been done for the site.
The two groups are planning a number of other events to show their opposition to the Eagle Mine.
