SAWYER -- American Airlines will be decreasing their flight services at Sawyer International Airport.
AA has eliminated two of their three daily flights. Passengers will no longer be able to travel to Chicago via Green Bay and Traverse City except for one Saturday flight connecting through Traverse City. The Sunday through Friday non-stop flight to Chicago will remain on the schedule.
"Unfortunately, Sawyer's down in its overall passenger traffic by 4,000 passengers. It's going to be quite a challenge for us to make up for those lost passengers for the balance of this calendar year," said Airport Manager, Keith Kaspari. "But, we're hopeful that at some point, once the economy improves, that they'll come back and restore the service to Chicago."
Also, road improvements are underway on Kelly Johnson Drive on M-94. Airport officials are asking passengers to allow an extra 20 minutes for the detour due to road closures.
