MARQUETTE COUNTY -- As the gas prices remain higher than last year, some people have been turning to alternative forms of transportation.  Scooters and mopeds are what many have been choosing.

At Marquette Power Sports, they report high school and college students as the most frequent buyers of scooters.

It's all in an effort to save on gas money.

"Earlier in the year, earlier in the spring, we had really high gas prices and they were going like nuts," said owner Sarah Wolfenberg.  "And they stabilized and everything kind of flattened and, selling one or two here and there, not a lot.  And then as gas prices come up again, same thing.  So it's directly related--as soon as gas goes up, these sales go up.  When it goes down, these go down."

Some of the scooters sold there have fuel economies over 90 miles per gallon.  Scooter riders claim they only fill up their gas tank once every month or two.
