Plea hearing has to be rescheduled for jury trial

ONTONAGON -- A plea deal for 63-year-old James Griffin did not go through as planned Tuesday afternoon.

Originally charged with cruelty to 10 or more dogs, the Ontonagon County man was expected to plead to the misdemeanor charge of failing to provide two to three animals with adequate care.

After hesitating to answer several of the judge's questions, Griffin adamantly denied the prosecution's claims, which included burn marks, a broken tail, malnourishment and dental issues.

The case is being rescheduled for a jury trial.
