CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP -- UPDATE:  8:00 p.m.

Police have released the name of the woman involved in the high speed chase.

Erica Jane Weir, 19, has been charged with third degree fleeing a police officer and operating while impaired.

--------------------------------------------

The Michigan State Police were led on a high speed chase after attempting to stop a vehicle around 1:40 Tuesday morning on US-41.

The vehicle, a 2000 Mercedes-Benz driven by a 19-year-old woman from Marquette, was travelling on US-41 in Chocolay Township when the attempted stop was made.  She turned down County Road 545 and eventually went off the road, hitting a tree.

Troopers found the vehicle vacant but located the driver near the scene of the crash at her residence.  The woman was arrested for fleeing and eluding, operating while intoxicated and had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

She was lodged in the Marquette County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
