GWINN -- The driver of a vehicle that launched airborne after hitting an embankment on Tuesday afternoon near Gwinn has been identified as James Nancarrow of Marquette.  He is charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

The vehicle Nancarrow was driving left the road and went into a ditch, hit a road embankment and went airborne for about 79 feet, then hit another embankment, launching airborne for another 71 feet before stopping, according to the Forsyth Township Police Department.

Nancarrow was not wearing his seatbelt and told authorities that he fell asleep.

There was no police pursuit involved in the crash, but there were 911 calls made by drivers witnessing a vehicle swerving in and out of traffic.

Nancarrow received several injuries but is listed in stable condition at Marquette General Hospital.
