ESCANABA -- The Department of Natural Resources Pocket Park in Escanaba is trying to get kids to utilize the free park more, and one way they're trying to draw kids is by teaching them how to fish.
Every Friday, kids can learn the fundamentals of fishing from an outdoor recreation educator.
They learned how to properly tie a hook, bait a hook, and put it in the water.
The kids were able to practice their skills in a U.P. shaped catch and release pond, but some of the kids first needed a little help baiting the hooks with the worms.
"It was kind of yucky," said participant Kylie Pryal. "It kept squirming everywhere. I kind of kept trying to get it away. You should always go like this and like that because you can get it in the spot where it gets a bunch of fish in."
The pond is stocked with 2,500 bluegill, perch and bass.
