Residents stated their cases to USPS representatives Thursday night.
FOSTER CITY -- The Foster City Post Office is one of nine being evaluated for possible closure in the U.P. and Thursday night Breen Township residents expressed their concerns to the U.S. Postal Service.
At a public hearing, residents discussed rural delivery options and losing the town's post office which has been running for 125 years.
The USPS expects to save $32,000 if they decide to close the post office.
Representatives were quick to point out that nothing has been decided yet.
But the more than 40 residents in attendance voiced their concerns about losing their post office.
“I come to Foster City once a week to pick up my mail,” one resident said. “That's as much traveling as I feel that I need to do.”
“We're doing an initial internal review where we're looking at the individual post offices and determining if we close that post office could we maintain regular and effective service to the community?” USPS Review Coordinator Melissa Vander Slik told the audience.
The USPS is expected to complete its review of the Foster City Post Office in the next two to three months and then make its final decision.
Nine other U.P. post offices like Amasa and Nisula are also going through this process and another 14 could follow.
