MARQUETTE -- The International Walker's Association set foot in the U.P. this week for their annual Five Day Walk series.
Over the years, the group has blazed trails all across the Midwest and Canada. Group members range in age from 50s to 90s and tackle trails of all sizes.
Organizers say the friendly community and outdoor-oriented culture of Northern Michigan led them up this way.
"We enjoy the nature, we enjoy how everybody is outdoors," said Debbie Beckwith from the International Walker's Association. "Even here at the hotel, there are bicycles, motorbikes, there's golfers. Everybody is engaged in some sort of outdoor activity."
Rain and flood warnings did not discourage some members from trekking out Wednesday to Big Bay and Thomas Rock.
Tuesday, a dozen members took on Hogback Mountain. The group will be in town through the end of the week.
Anyone interested in leaving a footprint alongside these walkers are encouraged to stop by the Super 8 motel in Marquette.
