MARQUETTE -- Those looking to get a glimpse into what the mining industry looked like at the turn of the century can get their chance, thanks to an archiving team at Northern Michigan University.

The university's Archiving Department recently scanned and posted over 70,000 documents relating to CCI's annual reports and lumber company.  They also scanned over 500 maps and 200 photographs.

It took the staff of five over a year to scan and touch up the documents.

NMU acquired the records from the State of Michigan in 2003 as part of NMU's local government project.

"These records document a significant component of the history of the United States, its industrial development, both mining and corporatization of the economy in the late 19th and early 20th century," said NMU Archivist Marcus Robyns.

Now that the CCI project is complete, the Archive Department is working on scanning the minutes from both the Marquette City and County Commission meetings dating back to to the early 20th century.
