The annual event featured performances and competitions
SANDS TWP. -- It's that time of year again for cowboys and girls in Marquette County. The Great Lakes Rodeo is back at the Marquette County Fairgrounds this weekend.
Sunday, spectators could see team penning events, rodeo performance, as well as meet five-time world champion bull fighter, Rob Smets.
"Our sport, just like any other major sport, has a basic set of fundamentals," says Smets. "Having played the game before, I'm going to be able to explain what you need to do to be able to be successful in the different events and try and make it where they've got a little more knowledge about our sport."
"I got to go to different rodeos and to different horse events, and I got to meet a lot of new people, and I got to explain to them different things about the rodeo," says 2010 Rodeo Princess Emilie Samppala.
Saturday night concluded with a barn dance.
Sunday, the rodeo gets started again at 9 a.m. with the jackpot speed event, followed by the crowning of the new rodeo queen and court and the final rodeo performance.
