MARQUETTE -- With the swimming season here, the Mining Journal will be doing its part to help those, that may not know the dangers of Marquette waters, stay safe.
The newspaper will run a banner on the front page of their paper that reminds readers to be cautious while swimming and check flag warnings.
The goal of the banner is to start a dialog among locals and visitors as to the potential dangers of the water and to utilize the tools the city has put into place.
Publisher Jim Reevs says the newspaper is just doing its part to compliment the steps the city has taken.
"We thought that by doing this throughout the season, throughout the main swimming season, that this would be a real benefit, a real preventative measure to help prevent any drownings this summer, hopefully," said Reevs.
The paper began running the banner last weekend and will continue to do so until Labor Day.
