ISHPEMING -- After repeated delays, contractor McKenzie Bay officials met in Ishpeming Friday and got the wind turbine spinning, but only temporarily.
The contractor said they were here to run tests on the turbine, and since it's a prototype design, there is still much work to be done to ensure safety.
McKenzie Bay says more tests are needed. They claim they need to make improvements to its original design by its original contractor, ADSC.
"We had basically a half-cooked soup, and we had to deal with what we were dealt," said Bryan Zaplitny of McKenzie Bay. "I made a commitment to the people of Ishpeming and the housing director, the mayor of the city at the time, that we would complete the project and see it through."
So how much longer until the turbine spins for good? Officials say as long as it takes to ensure its safety.
