GLADSTONE -- The City of Gladstone was notified that they would hear a five-minute warning siren around noon Wednesday, but things went a little different than planned.
The siren is several years old, and at noon, Gladstone Public Safety Director Paul Geyer pulled the lever in City Hall, but the alarm never went off.
He said that's the whole purpose of testing it, to make sure that, in case of an actual emergency, the siren would sound and warn the public to take shelter.
"I don't know if it's been used during an actual emergency," said Geyer. "We usually test it once a year. The last time we had a big, severe weather event was back in 1992 with a tornado that came through town."
Geyer said it seems to be an electrical wiring issue, but he's hopeful that technicians will be able to fix the alarm very soon.
