MARQUETTE -- Some people say the only news they see is bad news, however, Tuesday, local media were saluted for reporting good news.
The Good News Awards are presented to media outlets by the religious leaders of local churches. The event honors the media for works that affirm the dignity of people and help promote universal human values.
Several newspapers, radio stations and television stations throughout the U.P. were recognized for their efforts.
TV6 received awards in various categories, among them, Natalie Jovonovich for Best Straight Story on her Kiwanis Ramp piece.
Organizers say the goal is to showcase those making a difference.
"To acknowledge the work of the journalists or reporters who has put together a story that's an example of an individual or group that really makes a difference in a positive way in our community," said Rev. Grant Lobb of the United Methodist Church.
The ceremony was held at the Messiah Lutheran Church.
