MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- In the month of May, Frei Chevrolet wanted to fill a genuine Army issued 1985 Chevy Blazer with items for troops, and fill it they did.

As part of General Motors and Chevrolet Military Appreciation Month, Frei collected incidental items for local soldiers from the 1430th based out of Marquette and Gladstone and U.P. natives belonging to the 1775th out of Grand Rapids.

"I am just absolutely amazed and can't say how proud we are of being in this area because the community had an outpouring of stuff for the soldiers, that really, I believe, means something to them," said Frei Chevy owner Jim Grundstrom.  "And they came in with smiles on their faces and said this is for the troops and we just started collecting."

Grundstrom also said they had to make a special appointment with the Postmaster to bring in the 128 boxes to prepare them for shipping overseas.

They're hoping to mail them out by the end of this week.
