Five-year-old Draven Hooper was recently diagnosed with AVM
MARQUETTE -- Five-year-old Draven Hooper of Marquette was a happy, healthy kid just two months ago, until he started consistently having headaches and vomiting.
Then one day he had a seizure, and after being rushed to surgery, doctors found that he had the congenital disease AVM, a deficiency of the cardiovascular system.
Sunday, Draven's family held a fund-raiser at the Elks Club in Marquette. All of the money raised from admission at the door, the bake sale, and silent auction went toward a travel fund for Draven.
Although doctors have reconstructed his veins, he is still facing months of continued treatment for seizures and possibly more surgery in the future.
"We have to bring Draven back down to Milwaukee for another appointment for what's called an angiogram, and also to make sure that there's no more of the AVMs left up in his head, and then after that test is done, we'll have to go down a second time to get the results," says Draven's father, Thomas.
