MARQUETTE -- The sky high gas prices have impacted many areas of our economy. With summer fast approaching, what will the prices do to U.P. tourism?
Tourism officials in Marquette say hotels are reporting that potential visitors are expressing concern over the area's high gas prices and are cancelling trips.
Pat Black of the Marquette Country Convention and Visitor's Bureau wrote a letter to the Attorney General's office asking for answers and support.
"What really got me the other day that for almost three years in a row on the AAA road report, Marquette is constantly non-stop the highest gas prices in the state," said Black.
Black's worried that with 75 percent of visitors driving to Marquette, they'll think twice before booking a trip this summer. She says the bureau is putting more money into marketing campaigns this year in hopes of reversing Marquette's County's reputation for having pricey gas.
