ESCANABA -- Businesses are always looking to grow their customer base, and what better way to do it then through social media?
Melanie Meyers is the manager of Richardson Jewelers in Escanaba.
“I am probably one of the youngest members on the team,” explains Meyers, “so I’m familiar with technology. I like to learn. I like to bring that back. And being a new manager in the store, it's refreshing to bring back new ideas, better helping my team and better servicing the community as well."
The jewelry store has had a website for the last few years, but only got a Facebook page a little over a year ago. And they've found that daily contests and interactive games have revved up customer interest and online traffic.
Last month, the store had a gemstone giveaway contest. They gave away a loose stone for every day in April, and one day they even got about fifty people to register online.
The workshop is a way for U.P. companies to stay competitive with bigger companies around the country.
“I don't believe,” said Steve Masters of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, “that there is a company out there that has ever had a year where they've said, we've made enough money right now. We’re good. We don't need more customers. So what we're doing is working together with our partners to make sure they can step through the electronic door into the Internet."
Now, more and more of the jewelry store's customers say they found out about the store, not through word of mouth, but by browsing online.
