NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- The man who died during an ORV trip over Memorial Day weekend has been identified as 62-year-old Daniel Hockin of Marquette Township, according to authorities.
Daniel Hockin succumbed to prior medical conditions and exposure to the elements, passing away during the three days the couple spent in the woods, according the Marquette County Sheriff's Office.
His wife, 62-year-old Marsha Hockin, also suffered from exposure after spending three nights in the woods.
According to the Marquette County Sheriff's Department, the couple went on an ORV ride in a Polaris RZR Side-by-Side at approximately 2:15 p.m. Friday. Their ORV got stuck in the mud around 4 p.m. Friday, about a mile east of County Road 510 near snowmobile trail 14 in Negaunee Township.
Marsha Hockin walked for help each day, but was unable to find assistance. She returned to the site of the stuck ORV and her husband. They spent three nights in the woods without supplies or proper clothing.
She also made "Help" signs pointing to the location of the incident, according to authorities.
Just before 10 a.m. Monday, Marsha Hockin made her way to County Road 510 where a passerby assisted her. She was disoriented and suffering from exposure to the elements. She was taken to Marquette General Health System where she was treated and released.
Daniel Hockin's body was recovered Monday.
